Salesforce Offers Free Slack Enterprise to UK Students in Bid to Close AI Skills Gap
Summarize this blog post with:

London, 15 October 2026: Salesforce has announced what it calls a global-first initiative: free Slack Enterprise access for millions of higher and further education students across the UK. The aim is to give students practical experience with AI-powered collaboration tools before they enter the workforce.

The problem it targets

Salesforce points to two figures. Around 61% of UK workers receive no AI training, and roughly 1 million young people in the UK are classed as NEET (not in education, employment or training). The company says the pledge will build digital fluency and improve graduate employability.

What students and institutions get

Participating colleges and universities will use Slack as a hub for learning and campus life. Examples include:

  • Connecting tutors and peers
  • Streamlining campus services
  • Building active communities for distance learners

The package includes Slackbot, Slack’s AI assistant, which answers questions in plain language using the workspace’s files and conversations. Institutions can also add AI agents to channels to handle student services queries, coordinate study groups and support research teams.

Control and data protection

Each institution keeps full administrative control and can set its own permissions and guardrails. Salesforce says student data is protected in line with UK data regulations and is never used to train external AI models.

Part of a wider UK commitment

The initiative sits within Salesforce’s $6 billion UK investment commitment running to 2030. It also builds on other recent skills work:

  • The expanded London AI Campus opened in May and has since hosted AI skills workshops for school students.
  • The employee-led Future Trailblazers programme has trained 14,500 students this year.
  • Together, these efforts contribute to the UK Government’s goal of upskilling 10 million workers by 2030.

What they said

Zahra Bahrololoumi CBE, President and CEO of Salesforce UK & Ireland, said the move gives young people hands-on experience with technology used by UK organisations. She argued it will create a stronger talent pipeline for employers and spread the benefits of technology “across every postcode.”

Professor Ashley Braganza of Brunel University of London backed the plan. He said embedding enterprise-grade tools in everyday learning can help align curricula with industry needs and produce job-ready graduates.

Summary

The announcement combines education policy goals with a clear business interest: students trained on Slack today become tomorrow’s workplace users. Because the source is a company press release, the claims are Salesforce’s own. How many institutions sign up, and how much the tools change learning outcomes, remains to be seen. Colleges and universities interested in taking part can find details on Salesforce’s UK Slack education page.
